Nestled in the Maine woods just a 1/4 mile from Hamilton Pond (a favorite "locals" fishing spot, with trout, pickerel, bass, and more), and less than 1/2 mile from the ocean, this charming new apartment is bright and airy. Dragonfly Woods ia a clean, cheerful second floor apartment, about 5 miles from downtown Bar Harbor and the entrance to Acadia National Park. Just a quarter mile from Route 3, the free Island Explorer bus stops there to pick up or drop off folks who wish to explore the island without driving their own vehicles. Directly in our area you'll find our resident bald eagle family hunting regularly on the pond, as well as osprey, crows, blue jays, red-winged blackbirds, goldfinches, and assorted ducks and geese. Deer are frequent visitors both to our back yard and the pond. We have a resident ground hog who visits us, too.
Biking, hiking and the Island Explorer bus all take you to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor, Bass Harbor and all of the other towns on the island. There's always plenty to do on Mount Desert Island — including unlimited golfing, kayaking, swimming and canoeing. Our little island also offers theatre and musical venues, restaurants, museums, garden tours, whale watching, deep sea fishing and of course, there is always shopping!
Walk up the stairs to the open air, sunny deck, where you can relax, sun bathe, or watch the wildlife go by. It's not unusual to see deer, pheasant, eagles and falcons while relaxing on the deck. When you enter the apartment, you are struck by the open, fresh feeling the apartment holds, the large gliding windows providing plenty of sun and ventilation.
The apartment is fully furnished with linens, towels, dishes, pots and pans. The kitchen has a full-sized gas stove and refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker and toaster. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed (with a queen-sized PosturepedicTM mattress) and there is a double futon sofa in the living room. Also available are a "Pack & Play" crib and high chair if you should need them.
We have basic cable TV with VCR/DVD player plus WIFI to connect to the internet. There's a gas grill on the deck (which has a gate that can be closed to contain little ones or pets). We do accept well behaved dogs at our apartment, and are in a very safe, quiet neighborhood. We have space to lock up bikes or stow canoes or kayaks if you bring them. The yard has plenty of grass for the little ones to play on, and there's a picnic table, hammock and covered swing for the young and the young at heart. The dining area comfortably accommodates 4 people.
We are family friendly! Children and well-behaved dogs are most welcome!
Check-in time is Saturday after 3PM with check-out by 11AM. If you arrive early, you can drop your bags and tour the town or head into the park and see the sites.
